Damaged hair isn’t one single problem. After bleaching it turns dry and porous, after daily straightening it snaps at the ends, and sometimes it simply frizzes and tangles without being badly damaged at all. That difference decides which mask will work. Xiaomoxuan makes two – Collagen and Silky Smooth with tea tree – and below we explain how to choose between them.
Why hair gets damaged
The outer layer of each hair, the cuticle, is made of tiny overlapping scales. While they lie flat, hair looks smooth and shiny and holds on to moisture longer. Once the scales lift, hair dries out faster, tangles, breaks at the ends and loses its shine.
The most common causes:
- Heat styling – using a hairdryer, straightener or curling iron every day gradually dries out the lengths
- Colouring and bleaching – chemical treatments lift the cuticle and leave hair porous
- Mechanical damage – tight hair ties, brushing wet hair, friction against the pillow
- Environment – sun, chlorinated water and sea water
A conditioner smooths the surface of the hair in a minute or two after shampooing. A mask has a richer texture and stays on longer, so the effect is more noticeable: hair feels softer, detangles more easily and frizzes less. Used regularly, it gives a clearer result than a single application.
Which mask to choose: a quick test

- Dry, porous, brittle, straw-like hair after colouring or bleaching → Collagen
- Generally healthy hair that frizzes, tangles and has lost its shine → Silky Smooth
- Fine hair that gets weighed down easily → Silky Smooth
- Thick, coarse or heavily damaged lengths → Collagen
- Oily roots and dry lengths → Silky Smooth shampoo plus Collagen mask on the lengths only
Xiaomoxuan Collagen Hair Mask

More intensive care for hair where the damage is already visible: after bleaching, frequent colouring, regular blow-drying and straightening. It suits porous, dry and very dry hair, blonde hair, and long hair with damaged ends.
The hydrolysed collagen in the formula makes hair feel thicker and more elastic, reduces dryness and makes detangling easier. Collagen works for fine hair too – just use less and apply it to the lengths only, so your hair doesn’t lose volume.
Xiaomoxuan Collagen Hair Mask 550 ml
For dry, porous and bleached hair, and lengths stressed by regular heat styling.
Xiaomoxuan Silky Smooth Tea Tree Hair Mask
For hair that isn’t badly damaged but frizzes, tangles, gets static or feels rough. It works well for fine and medium hair, roots that tend to get oily, and dry ends without serious damage.
After Silky Smooth, hair is softer, smoother and more manageable while keeping its lightness and movement. It suits both natural and lightly coloured hair.

How often to use a hair mask
- Heavy damage (after bleaching, with daily heat styling) – 2–3 times a week for the first 2–3 weeks
- Moderate damage – 1–2 times a week
- Maintenance – once a week
Once your hair feels softer and stops breaking at the ends, you can use the mask less often. Used too often, a mask makes hair heavy faster.
How to apply a hair mask

- Wash your hair with shampoo and gently squeeze it with a towel: it should be damp, not dripping wet.
- Spread the mask through the lengths, starting 5–10 cm from the roots.
- Leave it on for 5–10 minutes. For more damaged hair, you can wrap your head in a warm towel.
- Rinse with warm water.
A common mistake – applying the mask to dripping wet hair. Excess water dilutes the mask, and it spreads less evenly through the lengths.

Frequently asked questions
Can I apply the mask to my scalp?
No, both masks, Collagen and Silky Smooth, are made for the lengths. Apply them 5–10 cm from the roots and focus on dry and damaged areas.
What’s the difference between a hair mask and a conditioner?
Conditioner is used after every wash and smooths hair in a minute or two. A mask has a richer texture, stays on longer and gives deeper conditioning, which is why it’s used 1–3 times a week.
Can I alternate the Collagen and Silky Smooth masks?
Yes. For example, use Collagen after one wash for more intensive care of damaged lengths, and Silky Smooth after the next for softness and smoothness. If you wash your hair often, you don’t need a mask every time: 1–2 times a week, alternating between them, is enough.
Which mask should I choose for oily roots and dry ends?
A combination works best: Silky Smooth shampoo for gentle cleansing and the Collagen mask on the lengths and ends only, keeping it away from the roots.
Which mask is best for fine hair?
Usually Silky Smooth: it doesn’t weigh hair down and keeps volume. If your fine hair is very dry or bleached, you can use Collagen, but in a smaller amount and on the lengths only.
When will I see results?
You’ll feel softer hair and easier detangling after the first use. For heavily damaged hair, judge the result after 3–4 applications.
